HISTORY OF JAHAR PALACE AT KELANTAN

Istana Jahar located behind of Istana Balai Besar. This two palace is one of interesting place I Kota Bharu city. Istana Jahar was build when Sultan Muhammad II in her responsibility about the city (1837- 1886) which is after the opening of Kota Bharu city and after istana balai besar was build.
                 The purpose of Istana Jahar build is Sutan Muhammad II want to give it to hisr grandson who is named long Kundur Bendahara. But after Sultan Muhammad II died in 1886, throne of Kelantan’s city was replaceable to Long Sulong and ruling with Sultan Ahmad. At the same time Istana Jahar’s construction was continued until it done.
                In 1889, after 3years of Istana Jahar was done dibina. Sultan Ahmad died, and Sultan Muhammad II take responsibility and Sultan Muhammad III made Istana Jahar as a confidental place beside the Istana Balai Besar.
                When Sultan Muhammad IV as king, DBginda also renders Istana Balai Besar as the place for live and at the same time Istana Jahar still in used. This palace don’t have official name until in 1911 after sultan Muhammad IV come back from Singapore dan renovate this istana. And this istana name’s was taken by one of the spesies of flower around the istana yank. And than this istana was given to her son who is Tengku Ismail which is called Tengku Seri Indera Mahkta.
                After sultan Muhammad IV died in 1920, his son Tengku Ismail replace him and be Kelantan’s king his name is Sultan Ismail. Sultan Ismail did not live at istana Balai Besar but stay at Istana Jahar which is palace that his father build to him.
                Another sultan’s Kelantan like sultan Ibharim (1944-1960) and Sultan Yahya Petra (1961-1979) did not live at the same palace anymore but they have their own palace. Now Istana Jahar had turned into museum king of Kelantan. This museum keeps all of the history of sultan Kelantan form first sultan until the new one sultan.
This museum was divided to few part like weaponry part, traditional cloths and few other part is all thing related to sultans.  Istana Jahar located is behind Istana Balai Besar and in the center of Kelantan’s town.
